The Science, Simply
Lauric acid, the molecule it’s often confused with, and the research worth knowing, with sources.
The science, simply
Two molecules people mix up. We don’t.
The fatty acid
Lauric acid
C12:0 · 200.32 g/mol
The main fatty acid in coconut oil, usually about half of it.
A different molecule
Monolaurin
C₁₅H₃₀O₄ · 274.4 g/mol
Lauric acid joined to glycerol. Its amount can’t be guessed from lauric acid.
Our ruleNo percentage of either on our bottle until our own batch is tested. [R1] [R3]
One study worth knowing · 2003 [R4]
Coconut oil reduced protein loss from hair. Mineral and sunflower oil didn’t.
Used before and after washing, on both healthy and damaged hair. An honest limit: that study tested regular coconut oil, not ours. We’re testing ours.
Five questions
Straight answers, no claims.
iWhat is it for?
Softening dry, rough lengths before you shampoo, so combing pulls less and hair swells less during washing. It’s not a scalp or hair-fall treatment.
iiWhat’s inside?
Planned as one ingredient: oil from fermented fresh coconut cream. No mineral oil, no added fragrance. The final label comes after lab gates 02–04.
iiiHow do I use it?
Draft ritual (being tested): a few drops on dry ends, comb through gently, leave on, then shampoo once. Final directions will come from tester results.
ivWhat’s proven — and what isn’t?
Research supports regular coconut oil as a pre-wash conditioner. It doesn’t show regrowth or less hair fall, and it didn’t test our oil. We’ll publish our own results, good or bad.
vAnything to be careful about?
Natural doesn’t mean irritation-proof. Patch test on your inner arm 24–48 hours first, keep it out of eyes, stop if it irritates, and skip it if you’re allergic to coconut.
